MAKEUP BRUSHES FAQs:
WHICH MAKEUP BRUSHES ARE ESSENTIAL?
To be able to pull off any look wherever you are, it is a good idea to have the following brushes at the ready: a blending brush; a blush brush; a concealer brush; a powder brush; an eyeliner brush; a double-ended shadow brush and a brow brush. Between these brushes, you should be able to sculpt and conceal perfectly every time. However, if you aren’t always on the go it is beneficial to have a range of brushes in your makeup collection to fulfil all of your makeup needs.
CAN I USE MY BRUSHES FOR MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF APPLICATION?
Yes, you can. Don’t forget that each brush is designed and made to allow for different amounts of product during application, however certain brushes do have multiple uses, such as using a kabuki brush for both face and body make up.
HOW LONG WILL MAKEUP BRUSHES LAST?
This all depends on how well you look after your brushes, and their quality. As a general rule, you should try to replace your makeup brushes every few months. The reason for this is not so much related to hygiene, and more related to the shedding of the bristles, which can prevent you from gaining the look you want.
CAN MAKEUP BRUSHES CAUSE AN ALLERGIC REACTION?
Roughly one in three people who apply makeup can find themselves allergic to at least one ingredient in their product. With brushes, it can be harder to check. Some people are allergic to the type of bristles used, especially if it is animal hair. In these situations, it’s a good idea to go with a brush that offers synthetic bristles. With certain individuals, if the brush is not kept free from dust and dead skin, it may be this that is causing the reaction.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY BRUSHES?
While many people will nervously admit to not washing their brushes as often as they should, dermatologists believe that you should be washing your brushes every 7-10 days, especially those which are used on areas where there is more sensitive skin, such as around the eyes. If brushes are not kept relatively clean, they can lead to eye infections and breakouts.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN AND CARE FOR MY BRUSHES?
If you are just giving them a quick, regular wash, simply wet them with luke-warm water, add a little bit of your chosen make-up cleanser and run your fingers through the bristles. After this, simply rinse the bristles and allow them to dry. If you need to deep clean your bristles, then adding a little baking soda to the water can work wonders.
